October is National
Breast Cancer Awareness Month. I have nothing but respect for those who host
fundraisers, wear pink to support the cause, and of course those who are
battling or have survived this disease.
However, I had never been personally affected by cancer until recently.
Yesterday, a very
dear friend of mine called me to tell me she has breast cancer. It was a surreal moment and I was left
speechless even as I was asked if I had any questions. We chatted a bit and joked before she had to
get off the phone. Soon as the call
ended, the tears came flooding in.
While I am sadden by
the news and even more devastated that I can't be home to be a physical body of
support (she is in Georgia and we are still in Hawaii), THIS is not about MY
feelings. So I want to show my support for her and others who have been affected.
I will be hosting a
Breast Cancer Awareness Fundraiser through Pampered Chef starting on the
15th. The party will be online only and
will close on the 17th. Pampered Chef
will cut a check for up to 15% of the proceeds to the organization of my choice
which will be Sisters Network Inc. $3 additional dollars will be donated for
every party booked through the fundraiser.
For every Help Whip
Cancer Infusion Water Bottle purchased, Pampered Chef will donate $1 to the
American Cancer Society as well.
My friend (for her
privacy, I won't reveal her name), I want to help her face the long year she
has ahead with treatment. If helping her
with a little cushion is in my power then I want to do that for her. So with every packaged item purchased from
Great Mornings Coffee & Tea, I will contribute a dollar to her. For every drink purchased, I will donate 50
cents. I will do this throughout the
month of October and send her a check on November 1st. There will also be a donation link on my
website if you would simply like to donate without purchase.
Lastly, I will be
doing the Susan G. Komen Race for a Cure on October 16th. If you are interested in joining our team or
simply donating, here is the link.
Thank you for taking
the time to read this post. It means a lot to me and now that the cause has hit
close to home, it means even more to have your support (even if it is simply
sharing this post).
If you have dealt
with a loved one who has battled or is currently battling cancer, please share
your story in the comments.
