A Summer Ex Follow-Up

I this is my follow up post to the summer ex blog post:
My mother forwarded me the letter and it was so bizarre to look at.  I stared at the envelope wondering what the hell an ex from over four years ago could possibly have to say to me.  I soon found out, he thought he had a lot to say.

The letter was short and to the point. Z wanted to see me and had been looking for me on pretty much every social networking site and found out my address through the satellite view of google maps (long story).  After a wave of emotions, I decided to email him and eventually call him.  A few brief exchanges were made before I finally decided (sort of) that I would see him.

This week, I came home with no real intention of seeing him.  However, I had to return another guy's gift at the mall and figured I would kill two birds with one stone by meeting Z there.  What happened next was a bit of a fail.

We were supposed to meet in the food court and as I sat there waiting on him, I did feel irritated.  My annoyance was interrupted when I saw the tiny body of my ex.  He looked like a cancer patient, he was so thin.  Come to find out he was 50 pounds smaller than when we dated.  I have many thoughts on his weight loss but I will leave it alone.  He said it was because when I knew him, it was right after his football days.  Either way, this new look didn't bring me any comfort.
Z, 50 lbs smaller than that pic from the earlier post:-/

I had originally planned to let Z say his piece because he seemed so concerned about telling me the truth, then ditch him to finish my mall trip.  That idea went out of the window.

Without boring you with too much detail, he told me the truth about his tattoo.  The same tattoo that read the name of a girl that was supposedly dead, killed by her drug dealers.  LIE! While I had figured he was lying long ago, he managed to surprise me a little: the tattoo was for a girl he was talking too WHILE dating me. NICE!

He revealed more truths that I really didn't even care about at this point in my life and then we sat there in awkward silence as he tried to read my face.  He said he had changed (which I don't entirely believe), but after I let down my hostile wall a little bit (blew off plans with a couple other people) I decided to shrug it off and walk around the mall with him.

I guess he felt really guilty because that is the first time I left the mall with that much shit and I didn't pay for ANYTHING! I know losing your virginity is a big deal but for me it was more of something to get out of the way; however, he felt since he was my first that he was extra wrong for his indiscretions.  SURE, WHATEVER YOU SAY!

He says he wants to be friends even though sex was obviously on his mind (which he later confirmed), I don't know if that can really happen.  Guys you have had sex with that want to be friends later......never seem to want to stay "just friends" for long.  But guess we will see....

Review: N.Y.C. Blushable Creme Sticks

N.Y.C. released its line of blushable creme sticks and many are comparing them to higher brands (i.e. NARS Multiples and Clinque's Blushwear Cream Stick). I have never used the Clinque cream sticks but as far as the NARS Mutiples, well I see where there is some comparison.

There are six permanent N.Y.C. Blushable Creme Sticks and currently two limited edition ones:

(Picture file was too large, colors listed below in order of swatches and sticks in pictures; click on picture to enlarge image)

Plaza Pink
Big Apple Blush
Berry New Yorker
South St. Seashell
Mauvin' Uptown
Urban Spice

Shock Value Collection (Limited Edition)
Pink Flash
Wild Berry

These blushes all have a bit of shimmer in them (some more than others; Pink Flash, Wild Berry, and South St. Seashell have little to none) and can appear a bit frosty.  However I think they are great blushes/colors for the summer and suitable for all skin towns.  While the lighter shades may make for better highlighters for dark toned faces, each stick is wearable in some way for any skin tone

The N.Y.C. Blushable Creme Sticks may not have the same consistency as a NARS Multiple; however, they do have the same creamy and easily blendable nature.  They staying power of the Blushable Creme Sticks are great but not meant for more than a 12 hour day.  Other than the previously mentioned cons the only other issue I have with the sticks is that some of the colors look very similar, as you may notice from the swatches.  However, the prices are so low ($3.99 to $5.99 appx.) that I don't mind having similar colors.

One more thing about these creme sticks is that they make for great lipsticks as well:-)

Movie Review/Response: Killers

So I'm a little late with this one...I saw Killers on Saturday and I have to say this movie falls safely in the middle between a fail and a great movie.

Like so many movies I go to see with friends, it is a movie that wasn't my first choice amongst the current movies playing at my small town theater. However, it wasn't at the bottom of my list either.

Katherine Heigl, who plays Jen, reminds me of a younger, taller, blonder version of Jennifer Aniston. Meaning that she plays the same tired ass roles in every movie and stupidly expects the audience not to notice. Once again she plays a work minded almost lame woman whose love life isn't exactly ideal (Have you seen 27 Dresses and Knocked Up?).

Jen meets and eventually marries Spencer (Ashton Kutcher); however, her perfect little world is soon turned upside down when suddenly all of her friends and neighbors are on $20 million dollar payoff mission to kill her husband. With the exception of the end (which was still lame), there was no real surprises in the movie.

I went to see this movie with two of my friends and we got a couple of laughs. However, he was obviously drunk and she sat behind me so I can't really judge how authentic the laughs were.

Ultimately, I thought the movie was a little Mr. and Mrs. Smith, The Bourne Identity, and Knight and Day (which looks more interesting than Killers) all thrown into one script.

Ashton Kutcher did a good job not playing his once signature, dumbass characters, but when your leading lady is Heigl.........there is only so much you can do. There were SOME funny moments, but the action scenes seemed short lived.

Honestly, the best part of the movie was Catherine O'Hara's character. She played Heigl's alcoholic mother, who was sort of in her own world at times. While alcoholism isn't funny, there is something that amuses me about a woman who drinks her wine from a coffee cup and cures her hangovers by drinking from a massive pitcher of Bloody Mary for breakfast.

Like I mentioned earlier, this movie wasn't a complete disaster but it surely doesn't fall under the category of me running to get the dvd later. Killers is passable, even average. It is one of those movies you can't really recommend but you can't completely discourage others from seeing either. So go see it and tell me what you think.

Summer Brings Exes or Just One

So my track record when it comes to dating is worthy of a comedy or a over dramatic soap opera. I've been dumped, cheated on, and lied to. Don't get me wrong, I'm no innocent victim cause I've done my fair share of the same. But what makes my dating life amusing (in retrospect, never while it is happening) is my past constantly trying to make its way to the present. What do I mean by this? Every ex, hookup, or short-term whatever has tried to contact me long after a disastrous ending to our "relationship." While I could go on and on and on about how and why guys from my past felt the odd desire to contact me, this is not what this post is about.

Today I got a text from my mother telling me that I got a letter in the mail from a Z. P. (not his full name). Assuming that my mother was texting me his full name, she must of thought I knew who that was. After ignoring the text and going back to sleep, I thought about who the hell was Z. Then I realized it was the guy who took my virginity. The same guy I hadn't spoken to in years and had long forgotten his last name. I considered letting my mom just open the letter for me, but realized that would be a horrible idea, since Z turned me from a rule bender to a rule crusher and I had know clue what he could possibly have to tell me now.

A year after we broke up, this dumb fuck got engaged. Trust, there was no sense of loss there since he was a dumbass to put it simply. He was always high, wanted to be a rapper, was a waiter (and still may be), and had no real plans for a real future. So all I can say is good luck to his fiance (if they are still together).

To wrap this up, I spent 20 minutes on the phone with my mother about the letter. Wondering how he got the address (he had been to the house, but who really memorizes the actual address of an ex....not me) also because I doubt he ever really knew my parents' name and our address isn't listed in the phone book. I asked my mom what the envelope looked like, was it a regular one or the type you put a card in. She told me the envelope was regular but given the fact that he was a dumbass, doesn't mean he wouldn't print out wedding invitations on regular paper. Which brings me to the thought of why would he send me one!?

My mom told me it looked like a single piece of paper was inside and that the handwriting looked like a female's (something I do slightly remember about him). Since I haven't spoken to him in years, it should be interesting to see what it is because there is nothing to talk about at this point. We broke up and it was a bad memory that I have long since forgotten. What makes this contact from an ex interesting is because it required more effort than the others (no text message, looking me up on facebook, or calling a friend), he actually used my full name and address and wrote to me...........THIS SHOULD BE INTERESTING.

May Favorites (non-beauty related)

Another month has passed and these are the things I loved that weren't beauty related!

"Ride" by Ciara featuring Ludacris

I have been really loving this song last month. Honestly, I feel that Ciara's music can be hit or miss at times, but this song suited her well. "Ride" isn't too slow (which with her voice, isn't a strong point for her) and it isn't to clubby. The beat is good and strong and just fits so many of my moods: desire to dance, chill, and even get my freak on (wink, wink) lol. It is just a great song.

"Why Don't You Love Me" by Beyonce

Another song I loved in May was Beyonce's "Why Don't You Love Me." There isn't much I can say expect that it said exactly how I felt in regards to a past relationship. The song is in your face and somewhat empowering, but that is probably cause the beat is great.

KFC Grilled Chicken with Mashed Potatoes and Gravy
So my 22 year old mind allowed myself to think eating grilled chicken from a fast food restaurant was "being good" compared to eating a burger. There is nothing really healthy about this combination, but it just tastes so good. The KFC seasoning on the grilled chicken dipped in the mashed potatoes with gravy is just so good. I ate it more than I want to admit this month.

Chick-fil-a Fudge Nut Brownie
I usually don't have a sweet tooth, but in May I was killing those brownies. I found myself just going to Chick-fil-a just to get the brownies. Sad, I know. LOL! But they just hit the spot every time, maybe cause I lacked chocolate in other areas of my life;-)

Pizza Hut Pan Pizza With Sausage, Pepperoni, and Mushrooms

So I wasn't exactly healthy about my eating habits this month. But for some reason I found myself craving this pizza and had it like 3 or 4 times this month. Crazy, but it was so good. June will be a healthier month:-)

Real Housewives of New York

I am a Georgia girl and black, so you know I have love for the Real Housewives of Atlanta (though some of them are a hot mess). However, this season of the Real Housewives of New York is the best one yet. All the drama is ridiculous and I found myself getting irritated with Jill (for her high school ways), Kelly (for her stupidity) and LuAnn (for her hypocrisy). However, like any woman who spent their teen years during the rise of the reality television show I get a kick out of people making asses of themselves and who doesn't love a little drama when it doesn't involve your own life. I will say that they didn't need to add the extra two women to the cast (Sonya and Jennifer....yes she was a housewife, but I guess she was too boring to be in the introduction).

I'm sure there is something I forgot, but oh well. See my beauty favorites of May:
