Forever 21 Jewelry Haul (5/30/11)

I went to the mall with my sister the other day and of course she wanted to hit up Forever 21.  Now, I'm not exactly a huge fan of the store.  Don't get me wrong, they have some cute things, but I'm not exactly a size small.  Hell, I'm not even a medium.

Needless to say, I don't shop there often.  However, with my makeup rehabilitation in affect (more like my mom wiping out half of my "stash"), i decided to focus my energy on other things.  Anyways, I wandered into the accessories section and picked up a few things.  Got it all under $14.  I am really loving the bow rings, which I see Kandee Johnson wear all the time.  They are so cute:-)
 Earrings $2.80
 Rings $1.50 (each)
Ring on the far left was $1.50 and the other two were $2.80
Grand Total: $13.67

EMPTIES: Carol's Daughter Rosemary Mint Purifying Conditioner

When it comes to shampoo and conditioner, I usually don’t buy the two that are meant to be a set.  I usually buy a shampoo from one brand and a conditioner from another.  However, when I started using Carol’s Daughter’s products,  I decided to buy two products that correspond with each other.  I went with the Rosemary Mint Purifying Shampoo and the Conditioner. I will be reviewing the shampoo at a later date.

I purchased the products online from Sephora. Unfortunately, the Rosemary Mint Purifying Shampoo and Conditioner are no longer sold on the Sephora or Macy’s website.  However, the last time I was at the mall they are available in both of the retailers’ stores.

I started using the conditioner when I was transitioning to natural last summer.  When I first started using the conditioner, I will admit that I was not very impressed.  The conditioner is not necessarily a intended to be a deeply moisturizing conditioner; therefore, I guess it is my fault for expecting heavy duty moisturizing effect with this conditioner.   However, I bought the set because of my experience with another rosemary mint product.

According to the site:
Clarifying Conditioner. Ideal for All Hair Types.

We love this because it:
·  Invigorates and refreshes the scalp with cooling Peppermint Oil
·  Deeply conditions and provides lasting moisture and shine with Jojoba Oil
·  Provides damage control and helps minimize tangles with Panthenol (Pro-vitamin B5)
·  Has Rosemary Extract to deliver antioxidant and anti-inflammatory benefits to hair and scalp.

PLUS, this has NO Parabens, Petroleum, Mineral Oil or artificial color

So what else is there to know about rosemary extracts and peppermint oil?

According to the Live Strong Website, rosemary is used in shampoos to treat dandruff and itchy scalp.  It is also “beneficial for oily hair,” says herbalist Rosemary Gladstar in her book Family Herbal- A Guide to Living Life with Energy, Health and Vitality.  “It will cleanse any excess oil from the scalp and make it obtain balance in its oil production,” states Gladstar.

Rosemary oil is also known to stimulate hair growth and strengthen the hair shaft.  Two things that are beneficial for treating hair loss according to acupuncturist David Crow in his book The Pharmacy of Flowers.

While most of the benefits of mint in shampoo seem more aroma therapeutic than anything, the biggest appeal for it in hair products is that it increases blood circulation.  The increase in circulation is believed to stimulate hair growth, another benefit for those suffering from hair loss.

When combined with jojoba oil and panthenol, you get a product that is supposed to be deep cleaning and moisturizing.

Now with the small science lesson aside, we must move on to my personal opinion of this product, of course.
I mentioned earlier that I was not initially impressed with this conditioner, which is a shame because I loved the shampoo.  So when it approached closer to the end of the bottle, I sat it to the side and didn’t think much about it.

Right before I moved to my current location, I decided to either use up old products or toss them.  This conditioner was one of those use up products. For $16 this is not something I wanted to just throw away since it was not completely horrible.  I was pleasantly surprised that when I used the product again, my hair loved it.

Since the last time I had used the conditioner, I had given up my natural journey.  So I don’t know why my hair hated it when it was natural and loved it when it was relaxed.  But I was disappointed that I didn’t have much left, since I had used most of it when my hair was still natural.

Overall, the product was good and did it's job.  But the ultimate question is would I repurchase it? And I would have to say..........

YES

While this isn't the best moisturizing conditioner I've ever used it still made my hair feel great.  While it is a bit pricey ($16 for 8oz), it doesn't have all of the extra foaming agents that can be damaging to you hair which is always a good thing.  If I ever decided to go back natural though, this is not a conditioner I would repurchase.

Review: Stila Custom Color Blush

So back in January, I saw this blush on the Sephora website and I got excited. I know, I know. Excited over makeup? YES! LOL!

Now, the blush came out at a time when I was trying to pull the reigns on my spending habit with makeup.  But this blush just called for me.  I had been dying to try NARS' Desire and Angelika blush, so the bright pink of this Stila blush sucked me in.  Plus, the self-adjusting concept intrigued me.

When it comes to gimmicky concepts with makeup, I know that some people look down on those items.  However, after success with a few of them, I figured there was no harm in trying another.  Especially since it was a simple idea and possessed a quality I loved in another item: my Dior Lip Glow.

The color is a fuchsia pink with what looks to be a blue undertone.  It is supposed to self adjust to your skin town to give you a flattering color that compliments you.  When I wear it, it gives me a deeper pink color.

Overall, I love this blush.  It is pigmented and blendable, 2 things you can't always find in a blush for darker skin tones.

It is available at Sephora and Macy's (cheaper at Macy's but higher shipping online if you spend less than $50).

On My Nails: Zoya Dove

So I purchased this polish with the rest of the Intimate Collection that was offered during the Women's Appreciation Day event held by Zoya.  It is a cream, gray polish.  While that doesn't sound exciting, I find it interesting that in certain lights it tends to pick up hints of other undertones (maybe it is just something I made up), but the few times I have worn this polish I swear the color has looked greenish or purplish at times.

Either way, I think this is a great color for the office and for the summer: simple, clean, and "intimate":-)

They had NYX products buy 2, get 1 free and Ulta products buy 1, get 1 free. With the store coupon I got all of my stuff for $12.70:-)

The Story of an (Ex) Army Girlfriend: The Aftermath

One of the worst feelings of a breakup is to realize that in the end it was mostly your fault.  Now if you hate your ex, I'm sure it doesn't matter who's fault it is.  However, when you have reached a level of peace with your ex the feeling is hard to deal with.

For 2 weeks, I have been forced to look at my own actions and today seemed especially hard.  Through my entire relationship, I focused so much energy on what HE did wrong and what HE needed to do to correct HIS screw ups and shortcomings.  In 2 weeks, I realized I did a lot of messing up myself.

When it comes to making a mistake, the question always lies in whether you feel bad because you got caught or because you actually did something wrong.  In this case, it is both.  While I still believe I didn't behave poorly in some situations, when it comes to dating it is a guilt by association in regards to past relationships. Unfortunately, I learned that no real response is just as bad as responding with words that humor the inappropriate behavior. Make sense? Hope so....

*Plus it doesn't help when you don't remember the response, so you may be guilty anyways (just wanted to add to the confusion).

For the last week, I have smiled on the fact that my relationship would repair itself fairly quickly.  Text messages and phone calls no different than when we were still in a relationship.  However, today I realized maybe we were never happy, maybe we were only content.  He tells me news as if our breakup was really just a front, as if he was over our relationship long before the titles "ex" were involved.

I wish I could say that I felt as confident about my relationship getting back together as I did yesterday.  But today, I am forced to let the negativity consume me.  I sit here and wish I could take away all my screw ups alone and pray that my relationship overcomes this, but for now I can only hear the laughter of my exes and his "groupies" flooding my ears.  Right now, the laughs seem deafening.
