Wednesday Wishes 6/19/13

While the weekend was a bit bumpy, the week since my last "Wednesday Wishes" seems to have gone by quickly.  There have been a few items I've been wanting, some more recently and others for awhile.

So here are my wishes for the week:
OCC Stained Gloss Lip Tars
I've wanted to try these since before they came out thanks to Instagram as usual.  From what I understand, it is inspired by stain glass. I've recently started using the regular Lip Tars and love them and the Stained Gloss is a glossy version of the original. Meta, a red orange shellac, and Rhythm Box, a translucent purple burgundy, are the two that I want to try the most.

Lime Crime Velvetine in Red Velvet
Always on the search for the perfect red lipstick and I've recently been getting into matte finishes.  I had never heard about Lime Crime before until I joined Instagram.  The Velvetines have gotten great reviews and everytime I see a picture of it on someone's lips, it makes me want it more.  It is a liquid lipstick that dries to a "matte, touch proof finish."
Keurig Coffee Maker
Back during Christmas, I grappled with the idea of paying all that money for a Keurig.  I asked people what they thought. Everyone said I should get it, but it was my mom who told me it was a great coffee maker but may not be worth spending the money on.  While I don't regret going with another coffeemaker, there are days when my son is being a handful and a quicker system would be much appreciated.

 NYX Cosmetics Shine Killer
Only reason this is on my wish list is because I don't really need it right now. I haven't been wearing a lot of makeup since becoming a stay at home mom and I'm currently using another stay matte product.  But since it is summer and I have oily/combination skin, it is never wrong to want more products that will help keep you shine free.

Polished by KPT Thermal Lacquer's
This makes my wish list because there is a whole line of polishes but they are always sold out and my days of stalking makeup websites for restocks are kind of over.  I usually don't care much about indie polish labels, but the swatches of the thermal lacquers I see on Instagram have me wanting to add all of the colors to my collection.
The Perfect Framed Mirror for My Living Room
Since I moved up here to Kentucky, I've wanted a large mirror to go on my wall in my living room.  But finding one that is large enough and attractive enough has been a challenge. Hopefully when I do find that mirror it won't cost me an arm and a leg.

And of course when I finally post this, it is Thursday. Smh

I'll try to make it next week:-)

Two Month Weightloss Countdown: Day 29-32 No More "Fuck It" Days

Trying to lose weight when you are so far from your goal is a continuous roller coaster of emotions.  Some days I feel like I am really making progress and days like day 29..........well I definitely feel like a loser and not in the good way.

I've always been a self destructive person from emotional eating, drinking and spending.  When I needed relief I did what I could to soothe my pain.  Now that I am a married, stay at home mother of a 6 month old, my self destruction is limited to food.

Since the start of my two month countdown, I have had cheat days or "fuck it" days where I eat bad once and just let the rest of my day go to pot.  This weekend was one of those days.  It was a bumpy weekend, so of course I ate despite working out.

But when I stepped on the scale Sunday, I decided that I need to kill it with these "fuck it" days because all of my work goes to waste in a matter of a couple of meals.  Temporary satisfaction for longer term setbacks.

So Monday (day 32), I decided I was going to restart my efforts. Because in a month from today I plan to be in Atlanta visiting friends and family and it would be nice to get to my short term goal of 190 by then.  While I was 206 on Sunday, I weighed in at 203.6 this morning.

I had to ask my husband for help and I have been fortunate that he is supportive.  I have no self control, he stopped me from eating fried chicken just yesterday and has been on board with my healthier dinner choices.
I was taking Xenadrine, a weight loss pill, but decided to take something else.  I am taking fish oil and a new weight loss pill.  I've also been trying to make better food choices.

While I haven't started yet, I decided that I needed to try some other workout options than just the gym.  Maybe even working out twice a day.  But I am still going to the gym with cardio being my main focus but definitely doing weights as well.

Going to the gym tonight and plan to get it in.  I feel more determined than ever to lose the weight.  If you need some motivation feel free to add me on My Fitness Pal. Also check out my Instagram.

Review: Maybelline Volum' Express the Mega Plush Mascara

Originally, I picked up this mascara because I was fascinated by the gel-mousse formulation.  Too often I have loved the look some mascaras gave my lashes but the tube quickly dried out or they would cause my lashes to flake pretty badly.

According to Maybelline's website, this is why you will "love it":
Now, mega volume goes mega plush.
• Our first gel-mousse mascara with 40% less hard waxes for massive volume with a supple touch
• Extra-soft, patented Flexor Brush caresses lashes
• Lashes never brittle or flaky
• Available in washable and waterproof formulas
I actually like this mascara. It gives my lashes a nice, natural, voluminous look.  Also, it is always nice when a mascara holds true to it's word about not flaking up or looking brittle.

Now as far as the the brush, it is nothing special in my eyes. It wasn't until I checked out the website that I even realized that the wand had the ability to move.  The picture above gives off a false impression as if it really bends enough to matter.

This has been my go to mascara for the past month and something I would definitely repurchase in the future.

Wednesday Wishes 6/12/13 (A Day Late)

Sorry that I haven't been posting for the past week.  I'm still trying to balance being a good mom, a good wife, and to find time for myself. I've yet to really get it together.

On that note, this is my short list of wishes for Wednesday:

I've always wanted a treadmill of any kind.  When my parents got a treadmill in their house, I used it every day that summer.  My main reason for wanting one is because it won't give me an excuse not to work out. I know, I know.....I could always get one of those workout tapes. But there is just something about being on a treadmill.  Plus, it is kind of therapeutic and I really hate the outdoors.  This is the treadmill they have at my gym and I like that you can also hook your music up to the machine.  There are other things I like about it but this isn't a review for a treadmill.

Ariel Storylook Palette Volume 3

I first saw this palette on Instagram (like so many things recently) and fell in love.  The main reason this makes my wish list is the price.  It is $55 and with eyeshadows pouring out of my office, I just can't justify the cost to my husband.  While the colors are beautiful and quite a few of them would be unique to my collection, it is the Little Mermaid packaging that I love.  Ariel is my favorite Disney movie character of all time and as a kid I had an imaginary friend named Eric that I had a crush on....don't judge me lol.  What makes it all the more painful is that this palette is a limited edition and won't be around for long:-(

Real Technique Brushes

I've seen these brushes everywhere there are beauty bloggers. The reviews have been good and the prices are affordable.  But unfortunately, I don't live anywhere they are sold.  Since I have to have them shipped and don't feel like investing the effort in hiding the package, these will remain on my wish list for a bit longer.

LOVE IT! May Favorites 2013

Wednesday Wishes 6/5/13

Between Instagram, YouTube, beauty blogs, and emails there are a ton of things I want to buy and try.  Each Wednesday, I will post my wishlist of anything and everything.  So that I won't overwhelm you, I will try to keep it to no more than 6 items.

With that being said, this is my first wishlist:

Beauty Blender Pro Double Blenders
I've wanted to try the beauty blenders for awhile, but I could never bring myself to pay $20 for something that I could get for half the price at Target (Sonia Kashuk Blending Sponge).  However, I want this one mainly because it is black and I still hear so many rave reviews about this product.
Go See a Movie in a Theater
This may seem random, but with a 6 month old, I always have to wait until a movie comes out to On Demand to see it.  The last time I went to see a movie was in December when my sister came to town shortly after Elliott was born.  Since we have yet to find a baby sitter, my "date" nights with my husband only get as exciting as going to Red Lobster with the three of us.  Going to the movies isn't that exciting but it is a start.

To Get on the Scale and it says 158
158 seems like a random number, but it was the smallest I got the summer before my senior year of HIGH SCHOOL.  While 158 seems high, it falls within my healthy range for my height of 5'8". Over the years my weight has only gone up and up, and having a baby didn't help.  I am working on it but until that day comes, 158 is nothing more than a wish.
  Chevy Equinox
I don't know why but I have been low key obsessed with this vehicle and more so since I became a mother.  Don't get me wrong, a Benz or a Beamer would be a dream but I'm trying to keep it realistic.  What I like about the car is that it is not as huge as some SUV's but it is bigger than a car.  With the way people drive around here, something bigger than my Versa would be nice. Only downside is that I don't want to pay money for an American brand car.  Sounds bad, but I haven't had the best experience with them.

NARS Pierre Hardy Blush Palette in Rotonde
I have seen so many pictures of the Pierre Hardy Blushes from NARS on Instagram.  The reviews have been great and I have heard that the pigmentation is amazing, which is not really a surprise.  However, it is the $41 price tag that has me choking on the idea of adding this to my collection.

 MAC Heroine Lipstick
So I have continuously missed out on this lipstick.  Initially, I thought it was going to be similar to Violetta, but after seeing swatches I realized I was wrong.  However, OCC's Hoochie Lip Tar is very similar and a color that I do have.  Next time this lipstick comes around, I will definitely jump on it.  I refuse to pay the inflated eBay prices.

Hair Experiment: One 'N Only Argan Oil Hair Color - 4R Medium Red Brown (Picture Heavy)

As I sit here to type this review, I can feel exhaustion coming down on me hard.  The joys of being a wife and mom means despite that feeling, I still have to cook dinner and give my son his final bottle (because he never wants to act right with my husband for bed time).

However, I said I was going to post daily and since I missed yesterday's post, I have to post twice today. I've actually been meaning to post about this product for awhile but of course I was still in my lazy phase:-)

I wanted to dye my hair a red brown.  My husband convinced me to try something "stronger" than a drugstore brand.  After speaking with two different sales girls at Sally's, I went with the One `N Only Argan Oil Hair Color in the color 4R.

I ultimately ended up dying my hair twice.  I waited about 2 weeks for the second application.  Now, the mixture for the hair color is 1 part color to 2 parts developer.  I ultimately used the whole bottle of each, which is the 2 to 1 ratio.

The first time I dyed my hair, I did not realize there were different levels of developer.  I just happened to to grab the 20 Volume by dumb "luck."
I never dyed my hair with professional products, so I had to research the different volumes.  Basically, there are 4 volumes: 10, 20, 30, and 40.  10 is the weakest and 40 is obviously the strongest.  20 is usually what you get in drugstore hair coloring kits.  The strength of the volume dictates the how much the color will actually alter your hair.

Volume 20 was used for both of my hair color applications.

I had always used the bottle application, but for some reason I decided to use the brush method.  However, with my hair being in its natural state both times, my sister and mother ultimately did the lathering method of applying the color.

Now this is how my hair looked before I applied the color (first round):

This is the color and developer mixed:

How my hair looked when the color was applied:

How my hair looked after I had rinsed and conditioned my hair (no shampoo):

Somehow my roots managed to come out brighter despite the fact that my hair is natural (not transitioning) and I applied color to my roots last.

Not satisfied that you could barely see my color, two weeks later I had my sister apply a second application.  This is the before (all pictures before shower cap) and the after (all the pictures after the shower cap).  This time I did use shampoo when I washed out the dye.

Overall, I will say that I do like this hair color.  What propels me to say that is the fact that it was not drying on my hair unlike other dyes I have used.  With past hair colors, I could feel my hair drying out immediately when I was rinsing out the dye.

Another upside to this dye is the fact that it does cover grays. Yes, I had gray hairs at 25. Something my husband felt the need to constantly point out.

While there are 2 applications per tube, it was not enough for my hair and my mother and sister both found themselves scraping to get enough for my even application.  It may of been more so cause my hair was in its natural state and absorbed the color like crazy.

I have seen another review about the color fading quickly.  For me, I noticed the color brightened up a bit after the first wash.  I used the Vidal Sassoon Color Protect shampoo and conditioner. However, in the past two weeks the color doesn't seem as bright.  For me the fade isn't drastic since the color never really stood out that much (unless I was outside, then it was very noticeable).

I would probably use this again but I may use a 30 volume the next time I give it a try.
